Dot Chess is a chess set that uses braille and sound, making it accessible for both visually impaired and sighted individuals to enjoy. Unlike traditional chess, Dot Chess improves the accessibility of gameplay for the visually impaired, thereby preventing their social isolation.
닷 체스는 점자와 소리를 사용하는 시각장애인과 비 시각장애인 모두가 즐길 수 있는 체스 세트 입니다. 전통적인 체스와 달리 닷 체스는 시각장애인들의 게임 플레이 접근성을 향상시키고 사회적 고립을 예방을 돕습니다.
Background
Visually impaired often have difficulty carrying out daily activities independently, which can lead to a high likelihood of social isolation. This social isolation can lead to emotional distress, difficulties in interpersonal relationships, and an increased risk of depression for the visually impaired.
시각장애인들은 종종 일상적인 활동을 독립적으로 수행하는 데 어려움을 겪으며, 이는 사회적 고립의 위험성이 높아지는 원인이 됩니다. 이러한 사회적 고립은 시각장애인에게 정서적 고통, 대인관계 문제 및 우울증 발생 위험성 증가와 같은 문제를 초래할 수 있습니다.
Insight
This project aims to alleviate social isolation among the visually impaired by introducing the beloved game of chess, which is enjoyed by people of all ages and genders around the world. Both visually impaired and non-visually impaired individuals can play chess together, share diverse experiences, understand each other, build intimacy, and ultimately develop empathy.
이 프로젝트는 전 세계적으로 모든 연령과 성별의 사람들이 즐기는 체스 게임을 통해 시각 장애인들의 사회적 고립을 예방하는 것을 목표로 합니다. 시각 장애인과 비 시각장애인은 함께 체스를 하며 다양한 경험을 공유하고 서로 이해하며 친밀감을 형성하고, 궁극적으로 공감을 발전시킬 수 있습니다.
Concept
Dot Chess is a form of chess that utilizes three senses and can be enjoyed by both visually impaired and non-visually impaired individuals.
닷 체스는 세 가지 감각을 활용하는 체스의 한 형태로, 시각, 촉각 그리고 청각을 사용해 시각 장애인과 비 시각장애인 모두가 즐길 수 있습니다.
User Scenario
시각 장애인과 비 시각장애인 모두 서로 다른 감각을 활용하여 적절한 전략을 세우며 몰입감있게 닷 체스를 즐깁니다.

시각장애인은 촉각을 활용해 플레이 하기 때문에 더 오랜 시간을 들여서 플레이하게 됩니다. 비 시각장애인은 시각장애인의 플레이를 기다리며 그들이 일상에서 경험하는 어려움을 이해하고 공감 할 수 있습니다.

The pieces of Dot Chess are designed using color and braille to be easily recognizable by both visually impaired and non-visually impaired individuals. The use of color and upper and lower case indicators in braille enable both players to distinguish between their pieces and their opponent's. Each piece's name is represented in both the alphabet and braille, making it easy for both groups to identify the role of each piece.
닷 체스의 말들은 시각장애인과 비 시각장애인 모두가 쉽게 인식할 수 있도록 색상과 점자를 사용하여 디자인 되었습니다. 색상과 대문자와 소문자 표시를 이용한 점자는 각 플레이어가 자신의 말과 상대방의 말을 구분할 수 있게 합니다. 각 말의 이름은 알파벳과 점자로 모두 표시되어 있어, 양쪽 모두가 각 말의 역할을 쉽게 파악할 수 있습니다.
The board of Dot Chess recognizes the movement of the pieces through NFC chips inside each chess piece. The recognized movement is displayed in braille on the Dot pad through piezo actuators, allowing visually impaired individuals to immediately understand the progress of the game, read the opponent's moves, and develop strategies accordingly.
닷 체스의 보드는 각 체스 말 안에 내장된 NFC 칩을 통해 기물의 움직임을 인식합니다. 인식된 움직임은 피에조 액추에이터를 통해 닷 패드에 점자로 표시되어 시각 장애인들이 게임의 진행 상황을 즉각적으로 이해하고 상대방의 움직임을 읽어 그에 따른 전략을 개발할 수 있도록 합니다.
During gameplay, important information such as an invalid move or a checkmate is guided through the speaker on the side, allowing both visually impaired and non-visually impaired players to receive the information through voice and enjoy an immersive gaming experience.
게임 플레이중 잘못된 말의 움직임 또는 체크메이트와 같은 중요한 정보는 측면에 있는 스피커를 통해 안내되어, 시각 장애인과 비 시각장애인 모두 음성으로 정보를 전달받고 몰입도 높은 게임을 경험 할 수 있습니다.
